Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired US rights to Jeremy Podeswa's Holocaust drama Fugitive Pieces, which opened the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.

The company plans a May theatrical release following the film's US premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Feb 2.

Fugitive Pieces stars Stephen Dillane, Rade Sherbedgia and Rosamund Pike and recounts a man's struggle to find peace following his traumatic childhood in the second world war.

Samuel Goldwyn Films president Meyer Gottlieb described the film as 'inspirational, powerful and emotional' and is coordinating the US release in conjunction with the film's Canadian rights holder and international sales agent Maximum Films. Samuel Goldywn Films' vice president of acquisitions Peter Goldwyn negotiated the deal with Cinetic Media's John Sloss.
