Oscar nominated Australian actress was married to Sean Connery and Anthony Shaffer.

Oscar-nominated Australian actress Diane Cilento has died aged 78.

Cilento was best-known on screen for her Oscar nominated performance as Molly in the 1963 film Tom Jones, but she also starred in The Agony And The Ecstasy, Hombre and the 1973 original of the The Wicker Man.

She was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance as Helen of Troy in the 1956 Broadway production of Tiger at the Gates.

Cilento was married to Sean Connery between 1962-1973. She later married playwright Anthony Shaffer who wrote Sleuth and The Wicker Man, in 1985, and moved with Shaffer to northern Queensland, Australia where she set up the Karnak Playhouse open-air theatre.
