20th Century Fox is to produce its first Bollywood film: a Hindi feature titled Ek Haseena Thee (There Was A Beautiful Girl) to be directed by Ram Gopal Verma.

Fox India is likely to release the film in January 2003 with production set to begin in the next few weeks.

The film will star Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar (pictured) as the female lead alongside Saif Ali Khan, fresh from his success in Dil Chata Hai.

The $2-$3m film will be shot at Mumbai's Film City and some outdoor locations. Fox India will be producing, marketing and distributing the film globally. Previously Fox India distributed a few Indian-made English films in the local market like English August and Split Wide Open.
