AFI FEST organisers have announced four audience award winner and recipients of two juried short film prizes.

In the audience awards, Taika Waititi’s Boy (New Zealand) won the world cinema prize while Cheol-soo Jang’s Bedevilled (South Korea) claimed the New Auteurs award.

Mike Ott’s Littlerock (US) took the Young Americans trophy and Joseph McKelheer’s Hamill (US) won the Breakthrough prize accompanied by a $5,000 cash prize.

Juried short film prizes went to Amy Grappell for Quadrangle (US) and Dean Fleischer-Camp for Marcel The Shell With Shoes On (US) for animation short.

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences recognises each winner as a qualifier for the Academy Awards.

Laurie Hill’s Photograph Of Jesus and Trevor Anderson’s The High Level Bridge earned honorable mentions and will also screen again today.

“We’ve had extraordinary, diverse audiences and incredible attendance at the festival this year, so it’s especially rewarding to acknowledge the films that our audiences have loved the most,” AFI FEST director Jacqueline Lyanga said. “And we had an incredibly knowledgeable and talented shorts jury who had to make tough decisions given the array of short films deserving recognition this year.”
