German mini-conglomerate Kinowelt International has bought all German-speaking rights to three films from Spain's Lolafilms - That Girl From Rio, The Dancer Upstairs and Gaudi Afternoon.

All three films are being produced by Lolafilms' UK-based production outfit. Comedy Gaudi Afternoon, which stars Juliette Lewis and Judy Davis, is currently shooting in London with Susan Seidelman directing. The film is an adaptation of Barbara Wilson's novel.

The Dancer Upstairs is due to crank up in April with John Malkovich directing and Javier Bardem lined up to star. The film, about the life of a Shining Path revolutionary leader, is scripted by Nicolas Shakespeare based on his novel.

Romantic comedy That Girl From Rio, directed by Christopher Monger and starring Hugh Laurie and Santiago Segura, recently wrapped after shooting in the UK and Brazil.
