Toronto-based Arrow Entertainment principal Steve Arroyave has added drama The Calling and documentary Mythic Journeys to his EFM slate.
Writer-director Jan Dunn’s The Calling, which stars Brenda Blethyn, Susannah York and newcomer Emily Beecham, is a Maeve Films production. The story centres on a girl about to graduate from university, who must reconcile her life with the suppressed ambition to become a nun.
Imaginal Cells Productions’ partly animated Mythic Journeys features the voices of Tim Curry, Mark Hamill and Lance Henriksen and explores how myth can bridge cultures and generations to create a new consciousness.
Directors Steven and Whitney Boe interviewed spiritual leaders including Deepak Chopra; Reverend Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder of the Agape International Spiritual Centre; author Sobonfu Some; and Robert Walter, president of the Joseph Campbell Foundation, a non-profit organisation which explores mythologies.
Arrow’s slate includes Davey Frankel and Rasselas Lakew’s The Athlete, about Ethiopian marathon champion Abebe Bikila, who was the first black African to win a gold medal in the Olympics.
