The event will coincide with the producer/visual effects creator’s 90th birthday.

BAFTA and the BFI are to host a tribute to legendary producer and visual effects creator Ray Harryhausen to coincide with his 90th birthday.

US director John Landis is hosting the event, which will take place at the BFI’s Southbank headquarters in London on Saturday 26th June.

It will include the presentation of a BAFTA Special Award to Harryhausen and video messages from James Cameron, Tim Burton, Ray Bradbury, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Guillermo Del Toro and Aardman animations. Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are also expected to attend.

Harryhausen began experimenting in the production of animated shorts during the 1930s and is credited as a major influence for modern fantasy filmmakers including Peter Jackson, Spielberg and Cameron.
