Spanish pay-TV outlet Canal Plus has unveiled the six winners of its newly relaunched script development fund, known as Canal Plus Guiones.

Canal Plus chose six treatments from 372 applications in which it will invest between $2,857 (PTS500,000) and $14,286 (PTS2,500,000) each to develop over the next year.

The channel is also committed to helping writers find a producer for completed scripts. Sister film production outfit Sogecine gets a first look at all scripts developed by the fund. Sogecine is currently prepping two films - romantic comedies Leila and Noche De Reyes - from fund scripts.

The six new projects to be developed this year are:
Eduardo Gimenez's drama Desierto Humano;
Coral Cruz's sci-fi Anemos;
Sergio Cata's romantic comedy El Andamio;
David Moreno's horror film Remolinos;
Vicente Fernandez Lopez's thriller Fuera De Servicio;
and Hector Carre's drama Mar Abierto.

"Development is necessary and essential, not just for producers but as a learning process for scriptwriters," said Guiones head of development Andres Koppel at the presentation of the new projects during the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
