A man wanted for questioning by police in the investigation into the murder of publicist Ronni Chasen shot and killed himself in Hollywood last night [1].

The “person of interest” allegedly pulled a gun and shot himself in the head at around 6pm local time as officers from the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) bearing a search warrant approached the apartment block where he was staying.

At a press conference held four hours later BHPD Lt Tony Lee said the incident occurred as officers entered the Harvey Apartments, a residence for short-term tenants in a run-down part of Hollywood.

Police did not name the man but it is understood he had been under surveillance for some time following the murder of Chasen (pictured) in residential Beverly Hills early on November 16.

It is understood that when officers approached and told him to raise his hands he produced a pistol and shot himself in the head.

Residents at Harvey Apartments, situated in Hollywood on Santa Monica Boulevard near Western Avenue, told reporters the man known as Harold was an ex-con in his 40s who had allegedly served time for firearms and drug convitions and had vowed he would never return to prison.

The investigation continues.
