Los Angeles-based Convergence Entertainment has signed a deal with Singaporean filmmaker Chai Yee-wei to represent him as a director outside Singapore under the company’s management division.

Chai recently made his feature debut with supernatural thriller Blood Ties, which distributor-exhibitor Golden Village Pictures recently released in Singapore. Produced by local outfit Oak3Films, the film was one of nine projects to receive funding from the Singapore Film Commission’s New Feature Film Fund in late 2008.

Convergence Entertainment’s Andrew Lam said: “We’re very excited to be working with Yee-wei whom we feel represents a new generation of  Singaporean directors that have wonderful commercial sensibilities in making films that will travel well internationally and beyond.”

Convergence also represents Asian filmmakers such as Hong Kong’s Tsui Hark and Gordon Chan, Japan’s Shunji Iwai and Korean screenwriter Shinho Lee.

The company also has several productions in development and pre-production including Wicked City directed by Mark Dippe (Spawn), slated for release in 2011.
