CHINA BOX OFFICE: Peter Ho-sun Chan’s Dearest topped the China box office for the week September 22-28, grossing $15.85m over its first four days.

The child kidnapping drama, which premiered at the recent Venice film festival, opened the weekend before China’s National Day holiday, which starts tomorrow and runs for one week. Huang Bo, Vicky Zhao Wei, Tong Dawei and Hao Lei head the cast.

StudoCanal’s Non-Stop, distributed by Huaxia Distribution, took $7.44m in its first full week, for a cumulative total of $14.87m, according to EntGroup figures. Coming in a distant third, local war film One Step Away grossed $4.87m for a cume of $11.32m.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes has now grossed $114.69m after taking a further $3.66m during the week. The Expendables 3 has reached $72.87m after grossing a further $2.97m.

Warner Bros’ Into The Storm took sixth position with $2.25m for a cume of $17.34m, while local romantic drama But Always grossed $2.08m for a cume of $36.59m.

Rounding out the chart, the only other new opener of the weekend, local animation Secret Plans, came in eighth with $1.95m over three days, followed by Divergent, which took $520,000 for a cume of $12.32m and The Eighth House, which took $410,000 (cume $1.04m).

Films opening tomorrow for the holiday period include Ning Hao’s Breakup Buddies, Ann Hui’s The Golden Era, Hong Kong animated feature McDull: Me & My Mum and Taiwanese action sequel Black & White: The Dawn Of Justice.
