The label will fund and distribute low-budget genre titles in the $500,000-$1.5m range with a focus on auteur-driven directors.

Dakota Group will finance the slate with international partners and Submarine will represent worldwide sales.

“The initiative is make the best movies with the best and most inventive directors at a modest budget,” said David Koh, Dan Braun and Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment, who negotiated the deal with Stanley Buchthal of Dakota Group.

“Our goal is to provide a platform for filmmakers to showcase their true talent given this constraint. We will announce our output and foreign partners shortly and our first slate.”

Submarine Entertainment is renowned for its work in documentaries and has also built a deep roster of genre titles such as Black Rock, Winter’s Bone, Your Sister’s Sister and House Of The Devil. The company also represents the Creepy And Eerie comic book library and are exploring adaptations.
