Independent film distributor Dogwoof has acquired the UK rights to Lucy Bailey and Andrew Thompson’s documentary Mugabe And The White African.
The distributor is planning to release the Academy Award-nominated film on January 8. The film (pictured) was shot covertly in Zimbabwe in 2008 and tells the story of a white farmer, Mike Campbell, who takes President Robert Mugabe to court for racism and wins his case despite a campaign of intimidation against his family.
It was produced by David Person and Elizabeth Morgan Hemlock and is a Arturi Films production in association with Explore Films, Film Agency Wales and Molinare Productions. HanWay Films is handling international sales.
Dogwoof’s head of distribution, Oli Harbottle, said: “We are very excited that the film has made the Oscar shortlitst and hope that the release will generate a buzz for its awards campaign.”
