British premieres of Cannes competition entry Swimming Pool, Jim Sheridan drama In America and Lucas Belvaux's La Trilogie are among the first titles confirmed for the 57th Edinburgh International Film Festival which runs August 13-24.

Adding to its previously announced retrospective devoted to French master of suspense Henri-Georges Clouzot, the Festival has confirmed a number of titles including cult drug-fuelled wild ride Spun, Arabic melodrama The Bookshop, Lone Scherfig's Glasgow-set Wilbur and such documentaries as Charlie: The Life And Art Of Charles Chaplin and A Decade Under The Influence, a warts and all portrait of American cinema in the golden era between Easy Rider and Taxi Driver.

The full programme will be announced on July 9 and the Festival is widely tipped to open with the UK premiere of Young Adam starring Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, Peter Mullan and Emily Mortimer.
