Scottish-based distribution company Cinefile has acquired UK theatrical rights to Philippe Lioret’s Welcome.
Warmly received at Berlin this year, Welcome is set in Calais and charts the surrogate father/son bond that develops between an illegal Kurdish immigrant from Iraq and a French swimming instructor.
Vincent Lindon stars in the film, which has racked up admissions of over 1.1 million in France since its release at the end of March.
Cinefile has a history of distributing French-language fare in the UK with the release of films such as Conversations With My Gardener and Pot Luck.
