Jorge Torregrossa's Purple America is now going ahead with a Canadian co-producer, Equinoxe Productions. The $6.3m (Euros 4.5m) production was developed by Spain's Arcadia Films with the help of El Deseo and London-based Future Films. Future's Stephen Margolis has led the financial arrangements.

The project is set to go ahead with Josh Lucas and Charlotte Rampling in the leads. Future Films' Kwesi Dickson and Arcadia's Ibon Cormenzana are producing with Lise Lafontaine and Michael Mosca of Equinoxe. Film Bridge is selling the film internationally. Equinoxe Films will distribute in Canada.

Based on the novel by Rick Moody, the story charts the relationship between a son and his deteriorating mother in the Connecticut suburbs. Shooting begins Nov 7 in New Brunswick with post-production to be done in Spain.

As well, Equinoxe is partnering with London-based Niki Marvin Productions on the $20m Canada-UK co-production Deafening, to be directed by Marvin based on the novel by Frances Itani. Marvin, the Oscar-nominated producer of The Shawshank Redemption, will produce alongside Equinoxe's Mosca.

The WWII-era production will shoot in Canada's Bay of Quinte region, where the novel is set. The story follows the relationship between two sisters, one of whom is deaf, and the war-shattered soldiers they love.

Equinoxe is also producing $10m Dolan's Cadillac, based on the Stephen King story,
with Ellen Wander of Film Bridge International. Casting is in progress.
