Spanish production outfit ESICMA has boarded Sergi Lopez-starrer The Women Or The Children by director Manuel Poirier.
Women is only the second project to get the greenlight at ESICMA under new head Pau Calpe. Calpe took over the reins from former head Juan Gordon in 1999. The company is backed by veteran producer Elias Querejeta, multimedia conglomerate Grupo Correo and Canal Plus France, among other minority shareholders.
A co-production with France's Salome, the comedy will start shooting on May 14. Lopez, who previously collaborated with Poirier on 1997 film Western, works regularly in both Spain and France.
In France, he was awarded a Cesar for best actor for last year's Harry, He's Here To Help (Harry, Un Ami Qui Vous Veut Du Bien) and in December won the European Film Award for best European actor for the same role.
