French sales agent F For Film has picked up international rights to The South (Het Zuiden), the film by Martin Koolhoven that featured in the main programme of the recent Rotterdam festival.

The film is an intense character study about the owner of an industrial laundry and has been described as an 'emotional masterpiece,' by some. F For Film chief, Margarita Seguy said: 'we only picked it up in Berlin so it is to early to talk of deals. But we have a lot of interest.'

The company also continues to sell on its Venice title Vodka Lemon, by Hiner Saleem. The film was sold to Germany's Kairos and Seguy reports says she is close to deals for Spain, The Netherlands and the US. On release in Italy since November through Ladyfilms, it has grossed Euros 300,000.
