Ravenscourt v2

Ravenscourt

Location of the Year

Ravenscourt Park Hospital, UK (Location Collective)

This category recognises a single location for its work across one or multiple film and TV productions (cities are not eligible, due to the City of Film category).

The winner, Ravenscourt Park Hospital (RCPH) in London, impressed the judges by showcasing its creative importance in the storytelling of major film and television productions. Credits include Locked In, Starstruck, Back To Black, Say Nothing and Sweetpea.

The UK grade II listed building, which closed in 2006 and remained abandoned before Location Collective secured exclusive access in 2023, boasts a rich history and distinctive architecture.

The facility has been preserved in its original state, and includes a triple-height art deco entrance hall. RCPH has been used on screen as both a modern and period hospital but also as a bank, luxury hotel and corporate boardrooms, and has doubled for locations in New York, Italy and Ireland.

One judge highlighted RCPH’s “impressive, versatile location [that is] very hard to compare with other geographical locations in the category due to its singularity.”

Judges noted the audacity of picking a building on its own as a winner. “But it had a lot of versatility within that building,” said one contributor.

Highly commended in the category was Moab, in Utah’s Grand County and the surrounding areas of San Juan County, submitted by Monument Valley Film.

The judges were impressed by the dramatic red rocks and majestic La Sal mountains, which are more than just a backdrop — they have become characters themselves, adding depth and authenticity to hundreds of films from classic westerns to modern sci-fi, horror and action movies.

Nominees:

  • Highly Commended: Moab, US (Moab to Monument Valley Film Commission)
  • Canterbury, Selwyn District, New Zealand (ChristchurchNZ)
  • Maraya, Saudi Arabia (Film AlUla)
  • Schönbrunn Palace, Austria (Vienna Film Commission)
