Two outdoor film screenings in July will officially launch newportFILM as the organisation plans a year-round schedule of events.

On July 23 newportFILM will host an outdoor screening at the International Tennis Hall Of Fame of Sam Taylor-Wood’s Nowhere Boy (pictured), followed on July 28 with No Impact Man at Sweet Berry Farm.

“Many people today watch films in isolation, in their homes and on their computers,” Nancy Donahoe, who co-founded newportFILM with Andrea Van Beuren, said. “Watching films in a festival setting opens the door to a dialogue amongst viewers and film-makers that can explore different viewpoints – and that kind of discussion can truly enrich a community and its experience of this art form.”

“Nancy and I are intent on programming intelligent films,” Van Beuren said. “We are also intent on exposing people to relevant and important national and global issues and on promoting discussion and involvement.”
