The UK's FilmFour and the Glasgow Film Office (GFO) are collaborating on Late Night Shopping, an oddball, after-hours comedy that marks GFO's debut as a film financier.

Saul Metzstein will direct the project from a script by Jack Lothian, with additional financing coming from the Scottish Arts Council's National Lottery fund and Germany's Senator Film Distributors. FilmFour will distribute the picture in the UK and handle overseas sales outside Germany.

FilmFour and the GFO selected the project from a short-list of young writer-director teams, which were provided with development funds and industry back-up in the form of producer Angus Lamont of Ideal World Films. Lamont's credits include co-producing Stella Does Tricks.

Metzstein and Lothian have collaborated since the short Santa Claws, working together on projects such as a documentary on Dogme film-making for US TV and Channel 4.

Elinor Day, deputy head of production at FilmFour, said: "[Metzstein and Lothian] have a great sense of wit and style and have come up with a very contemporary idea that has wide appeal."

Lenny Crooks, director of the GFO, added: "GFO part-financed Saul and Jack's short film debut and has supported the development of Angus' Ideal World Films so this teaming is especially gratifying."
