Andrew Shortell’s debut feature Psych 9 (pictured) will be the first film released theatrically by Gareth Jones and Martin McCabe’s nascent UK distribution outfit Galaxy Pictures.

The $4m supernatural thriller set in an abandoned hospital and starring Sara Foster, Cary Elwes, Michael Biehn, and Gabriel Mann, will roll-out across 30 digital screens in the UK on February 5, with the option to expand to non-digital screens.

“This reduces the costs of prints, and is also effective in terms of post production costs,” said Jones. “We will adopt the same policy on all our releases going forward, which means separately selling DVD, VOD and TV rights.”

Universal Pictures UK has acquired UK home entertainment rights to the film through its indi VISION label. UK TV rights are still available.

Galaxy is handling international sales and will be selling Psych 9 at the European Film Market in Berlin. “We have also been in discussion with several US distributors,” said Jones.

Jones previously worked as managing director of HandMade Films and Alibi Film International. Martin McCabe held senior positions at UK distributors Metro Tartan, Electric Pictures and Downtown.
