Korean sales company KM Culture has sold cosmetic surgery romantic-comedy 200 Pounds Beauty to Amuse, Inc. for Japan, M Pictures for Thailand, Vietnam Media for Vietnam, and AOE for Malaysia.

The Amuse deal in particular is good news after last year's huge slump in Korean sales to Japan. Lee Sang-mi, acquisitions exec at Amuse said, 'The film is charming, and it lets us introduce a new and different kind of Korean film to Japan.'

South Korea's top 8th of all-time hits, 200 Pounds Beauty clocked up more than 6.6 million admissions in South Korea to become the top-grossing film amongst comedies and rom-coms.

Innoform picked up the film for Singapore where it is in its fifth week and has become the top-grossing Korean film there ever, beating The Host.

The film sold to Golden Scene for mainland China and Hong Kong, where it opened yesterday (May 17).

With catchy tunes and a high concept story about an overweight back singer who gets an extreme makeover but finds it hard to deal with the fabulous results, the film also looks ripe for remake rights pick up.

Other Asian territories are in sales negotiations with deals pending.
