High Point Films is kicking off AFM with a North American pre-sale for its new family feature The Race. BFS Entertainment has pre-bought all North American rights.

Colm Meaney, Susan Lynch and Niamh McGirr star in the story of the young daughter of poor farmers who dreams of becoming a racing driver.

Andre F Nebe, who has made a series of award-winning shorts, makes his feature directorial debut. Michael Garland is producing for Dublin-based Grand Pictures.

High Point also worked with BFS on Tom Collins' Irish drama Kings.

The film will mark BFS' second theatrical release.

The Race just started post production and will be readied for a Cannes 2009 launch.

'Given the refreshingly simple and inspirational nature of this story in what are, globally, pretty troubled times, it was no real surprise that BFS were so eager to jump on this,' said High Point's Carey Fitzgerald. 'Indeed the overall message of hope and beating the doubters to reach eventual victory is one that particularly chimes with the current mood in North America, not to mention around the world.'

Denis Donnelly, CEO of BFS Entertainment, added: 'High Point has a proven track record in delivering so many high quality productions - as Kings, which we were fortunate to be able to distribute in North America, will testify. Now we are absolutely delighted to be working with High Point on The Race, another arresting and highly moving story from the great resources of the Irish film industry.'
