IFC has swooped on Cristian Mungui's Romanian competition entry 4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days and Hou Hsiao-Hsien's Un Certain Regard opener Flight Of The Red Balloon.

Both films will be released in North America through IFC's
simultaneous theatrical and VOD distribution platform IFC First Take.

Abortion drama 4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days takes place in the fina days of communism in Romania and stars Anamaria Marinca and Laura Vasiliu.

'4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days is powerfully provocative and should connect to audiences in some fundamental ways,' IFC Entertainment chief Jonathan Sehring said.

IFC's vice president of acquistions Arianna Bocco negotiated the deal with Wild Bunch's Carol Baraton.

Flight Of The Red Balloon is Hsiao-Hsien's first French film and tells of a boy and his babysitter who inhabit an imaginary world where they are followed around Paris by a red balloon. Juliet Binoche and Simon Iteanu star.

Bocco did the deal with Nicolas Brigaud-Robert from Films Distribution.
