A selection of past and present large format IMAX films are set to be shown in a special sidebar at next year's Berlinale.

The showcase, which will be spread over three days during the festival, will be screened at the two IMAX cinemas at the festival's Potsdamer Platz venue - in the Discovery IMAX theatre directly opposite the main Berlinale-Palast festival cinema on Marlene Dietrich Platz and at the other IMAX screen in the Sony Center's Cinestar multiplex.

Although no titles have yet been finalised, it is likely that the 1999 Oscar-winning animated featurette The Old Man And The Sea will among the films shown.

"The IMAX format is not so well known so the idea is to raise its profile by integrating [these films] into the Berlin festival programme", explained the showcase's local organiser Christine Haupt.
