Now heading into their ninth year, the Indian International Film Awards (IIFA) are heading east to Bangkok.

IIFA brand ambassador, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, made the announcement of the destination city along with the list of nominations for the awards. IIFA is always held in a country outside of India. Previous venues include Johannesburg, Dubai, Amsterdam and London.

The IIFA weekend is scheduled from June 6-8, 2008 culminating in the awards ceremony to be held at Siam Niramit.

The event will also host a world premiere of a Hindi film, which is likely to be Sarkar Raj, directed by Ram Gopal Varma and starring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

The weekend also hosts the Global Business Form to facilitate an exchange of ideas and networking. Co-hosted by FICCI, the Global Business Forum 2008 in Bangkok will bring together business leaders, policy makers and others from around the world. The awards weekend also includes media briefings, charity fund-raising events and a sporting event.

IIFA celebrates Indian cinema on a global platform and is attended by the best of Bollywood. The awards are the brainchild of event management agency Wizcraft International which kick-started them as a one-night event held at London's Millennium Dome in 2000.
