Isabel Coixet, the Spanish auteur behind Elegy and The Secret Life Of Words, is to start shooting her next film Mapa De Los Sonidos De Tokyo (Map Of The Sounds Of Tokyo), on November 16, in Tokyo. Madrid-based Imagina International Sales is handling international sales here.
The film will be produced by Mediapro and Versátil Cinema, and willstar Sergi Lopez and Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi. It will shoot inJapan and Barcelona for six weeks.
The movie, which will be in both Japanese and English, 'is,' accordingto Coixet, 'a reflection of my fascination for contemporary Japaneseculture and of the atmosphere of novels from authors like HarukiMurakami and Banana Yoshimoto; of my self confessed addiction towasabi as well as the almost material energy that the city of Tokyoemits at night, a mixture of expectation, mystery, shadows andsweetness with such a lasting effect.'
Kikuchi plays the central character, a solitary girl who leads a doublelife working nights at a Tokyo fishmarket and as a hit-woman. Lopezplays a Spaniard who runs a wine business in Tokyo whom she is hired tokill.
