Mandate Pictures has launched its home entertainment division Grindstone Entertainment, which will be aggressively sourcing titles here for home entertainment, online and mobile markets.

Former president of Lionsgate Home Entertainment Group Barry Brooker has been named chief executive officer and president of the venture, which has acquired 226 first and second-run features and plans to produce up to six titles a year. Longtime acquisitions and production executive Stan Wertlieb will work with Brooker.

Separately, Eva Mendes has signed to star in producer Neil Moritz and Benderspink's upcoming thriller Curve, which Mandate is selling here to international buyers.

Jamie Vanderbilt wrote the screenplay about a young woman who finds herself at the mercy of a psychopathic killer.
