‘Knife: The Attempted Murder Of Salman Rushdie’

Abramorama has acquired North American distribution rights to Alex Gibney’s Sundance documentary Knife: The Attempted Murder Of Salman Rushdie.

Abramorama will launch the film on September 17 for a one week run in New York before rolling it out to cinemas across North America.

The film has also sold, through international sales company Dogwoof, to Madman for Australia/New Zealand, HBO for Central and Eastern Europe, Movistar for Spain, Filmin for Spain and Portugal, NonStop for the Nordic countries, VPRO for the Netherlands, and VRT for Belgium. Altitude Film Distribution is releasing in the UK and Ireland.

Knife uses excerpts from Rushdie’s works – including his memoir Knife: Meditations After An Attempted Murder – and footage shot by the author’s wife Rachel Eliza Griffiths to track the physical and spiritual journey Rushdie took after he was attacked on stage in 2022, causing him to lose an eye and partial use of one hand. Gibney, Erin Edeiken and Sruthi Pinnamaneni produced for Jigsaw.

After its world premiere at Sundance, Knife had its international premiere at CPH:DOX in March.
