
Anya Taylor‑Joy has joined the cast of New Line/Warner Bros’ 2027 release The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum and will play the elf Seren.
Andy Serkis is directing and reprises the role of Gollum. Taylor‑Joy’s character is a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm, a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil.
Taylor-Joy joins Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, and Lee Pace as Thranduil – all of whom are veterans from Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. New cast members including Kate Winslet as Marigol, Jamie Dornan as Strider, and Leo Woodall as Halvard.
Jackson and his franchise veterans Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Zane Weiner are producing, with Ken Kamins, Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish of The Imaginarium serving as executive producers. Walsh and Boyens co-wrote the screenplay with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.
Taylor-Joy’s feature credits include Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Witch, Emma., The Menu, The Northman, and The Super Mario Bros franchise, and she earned Golden Globe and SAG awards for The Queen’s Gambit miniseries as well as an Emmy nomination.
She will next be seen in Apple TV+’s Lucky, which she also executive-produces, and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three.
Warner Bros will release The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum worldwide on December 17, 2027. The second upcoming film, The Lord Of The Rings: Shadow Of The Past will be written by Boyens, Stephen Colbert, and Peter McGee and produced by WingNut Films in association with Spartina Industries.
2026 marks the 25th anniversary year of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, which went on theatrical re-release via Fathom Entertainment. The two trilogies combined have earned close to $6bn at the worldwide box office.
