EXCLUSIVE: T A P E Collective has picked up UK-Ireland rights to Cherien Dabis’ Palestinian historical epic All That’s Left Of You from The Match Factory.
Palestine-US filmmaker-actor Dabis stars alongside Saleh Bakri, Adam Bakri, Mohammad Bakri and Maria Zreik in the story of a displaced Palestinian family. It begins in the Occupied West Bank in the 1980s, with a teenager who gets swept into a protest that changes the course of his family’s life. The feature spans seven decades.
It has already sold widely, including to Watermelon Pictures, which will release it in North America on January 9.
T A P E will release the film theatrically in the UK and Ireland on February 6. The distributor focuses on mixed-heritage and dual-identity storytelling, including recent films by Canadian filmmaker Ann Marie Fleming’s Can I Get A Witness? starring Sandra Oh and Hind Meddeb’s civil war documentary Sudan, Remember Us.
All That’s Left Of You is Jordan’s selection for the best international feature Oscar.
All That’s Left Of You world premiered at Sundance, ahead of a festival run that has included the Malaysia International Film Festival – where it won the best film and best screenplay prizes – and Karlovy Vary.
It will play in competition at the Red Sea International Film Festival in December.
It is produced by Germany’s Pallas Film and Twenty Twenty Vision Filmproduktion, with Dabis’s US outfit Displaced Pictures and Nooraluna Productions.
The film shot in Cyprus, Greece and Jordan.
“At its core, this film is about the humanity that endures across generations of loss,” said Dabis. “I’m grateful to share it with audiences in the UK and Ireland, especially at this crucial time when it can provide much-needed, emotional context for how we arrived to this current political moment.”
Isra Al Kassi, co-founder of T A P E added: “Drawn from personal grief, All That’s Left Of You is an important contribution to cinema history, and to the continued and ongoing fight against dehumanisation of Palestinians all over the world. To be able to bring All That’s Left Of You to audiences and cinemas in the UK and Ireland is a true honour. We have followed and admired Cherien’s career from her first feature Amreeka to her incredible television career and now get to be part of this stunning big-screen epic.”
