Doppelgänger Releasing has acquired North American rights to the four Spanish action comedy Torrente films by director-star Santiago Segura.

Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks handles international sales on the entire series and negotiated the deal with Doppelgänger.

Doppelgänger will release on digital platforms all four films charting the misadventures of a politically incorrect former police officer.

The series comprises Torrente: The Stupid Arm Of The Law from 1998, Torrente 2: Mission In Marbella from 2001, Torrente 3: The Protector from 2005 and Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis from 2011.

The first film will go out on Sept 3 followed each quarter by the next instalment.

Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis became the highest grossing Spanish language film of all time in Spain, a record previously held by Torrente 2: Mission In Marbella.

New Line holds remake rights.
