EXCLUSIVE: Vertigo Releasing has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights to Pete Ohs’s Erupcja starring Charli XCX.
The distributor is planning a theatrical release for the film in spring 2026.
Set in Poland, sapphic romance Erupcja follows the complicated romantic lives of two women: Nel, who works in a flower shop in Warsaw; and Bethany, her childhood friend who comes to visit with a new boyfriend.
It is a first acting role for pop star XCX, going by the summer 2024 filming dates. She stars alongside Lena Góra, with Jeremy O. Harris, Will Madden and Agata Trzebuchowska also on the cast.
US-based sales firm Magnify has also added deals for France (UFO), Spain (Filmin), Poland (Velvet Spoon) and international airlines (Aardwolf), with further deals in the works.
1-2 Special will release the film theatrically in the US next year.
The film is produced by Luke Arreguin, Josh Godfrey, Harris, Ohs and XCX, for Forever Holiday, Spartan Media Acquisitions and bb² production.
It had its world premiere as a Centrepiece title at Toronto International Film Festival in September, and will play at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival in December.
“Pete and the team have injected so much life into this wonderfully charming Warsaw tale, with a pair of magnetic central performances from Charli and Lena,” said Taylor Haldane, acquisitions and sales manager at Vertigo Releasing.
XCX will also soon be seen in Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights Of Hero, which she filmed shortly after Erupcja, and which Vue Lumiere will release in the UK and Ireland.
