Former UK prime minister Tony Blair has been appointed board advisor at David Ellison’s Skydance after Tuesday’s close of the $111bn Paramount-Warner Bros Discovery merger.
Blair, who currently serves as executive chairman of the non-profit think tank Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, will act in a personal capacity in his board role.
“Tony has led at the highest levels of government, respected for his intellect, strategic vision and ability to bring people together around bold, forward-looking ideas,” Ellison said of the former New Labour leader who led the country from 1997 to 2007. “His global perspective and insight will be invaluable as we turn ambition into results.”
The Skydance board members include all current members of Paramount’s board alongside new appointees Skydance co-CEO Ynon Kreiz, Emerson Collective founder and president Laurene Powell Jobs, and Activision founder and former CEO Bobby Kotick.
Board directors include Skydance president Andy Gordon, RedBird Capital founder and managing partner Gerry Cardinale, RedBird Capital chairman John L. Thornton, executive vice chair and former Oracle CEO Safra A. Catz, and Lawrence Investments president Paul Marinelli.
Serving as independent directors are Powell Jobs, Kotick, former Paramount chairman and CEO Sherry Lansing, former Barclays vice chairman Barbara Byrne, Unrivaled Sports chairman and CEO Andy Campion, and Silver Lake managing director and chief legal officer Justin G. Hamill.
