EXCLUSIVE: The Film Sales Company president Andrew Herwitz has picked up world sales on Meet The Patels ahead of its world premiere this weekend at Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto.

The rom-com about Indian-American stand-up comic Ravi Patel follows the protagonist as he enters a love triangle between the woman of his dreams and his parents.

Patel and his sister Geeta Patel co-directed what purportedly started out as a family vacation video.

“It is impossible not to love this film,” said Herwitz. “It is hysterical, has a huge heart and covers the journey of growing up which all of us travel sooner or later. Although it plays like a fiction film, it astounding to remember that everything you see in the movie actually happened.”

The film was financed in part by ITVS, which will air the US broadcast premiere on a date to be arranged once a US theatrical/ancillary rights deal has been arranged.
