Festival organisers announced that Mike Mendez’s creature feature Big Ass Spider!, E L Katz’s Cheap Thrills, Vincenzo Natali’s Haunter starring Abigail Breslin [pictured] and Dennis Iliadis’ Plus One will receive world premieres.

There are US premieres for Xan Cassavetes’ vampire tale Kiss Of The Damned and Rob Zombie’s The Lords Of Salem, while recent Sundance entries The Rambler from Calvin Lee Reeder and horro anthology S-VHS also screen alongside Toronto 2011 hit You’re Next.

“We work year-round searching for films that will wow our audiences at Midnight,” said SXSW senior programmer and operations manager Jarod Neece.

“This year we scoured the globe and brought back a batch that we knew would truly satisfy the gore hounds of SXSW. Full of scares, sex, madness, laughs, chills and major mindfucks, we hope there’s a little something for everyone.”

Festival organisers also announced the short film programme. As previously announced, the SXSW Film Festival will open on Mar 8 with the world premiere of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

The festival runs through Mar 16 in Austin, Texas. To see the full line-up visit the official website.
