EXCLUSIVE: Conic has acquired all UK-Ireland distribution rights to Ellis Park, Justin Kurzel’s documentary about musician Warren Ellis.
The fly-on-the-wall documentary offers a personal insight into the life of Ellis, multi-instrumentalist and film composer, who has played with rock groups Dirty Three and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
Conic acquired the film from sales agent The Yellow Affair, which has already sold it to Benelux (Pink Moon), Scandinavia & Baltics (NonStop) and Spain (Filmin). Madman will release the film in Australia on June 19.
Ellis Park debuted at Melbourne Film Festival last year, before a UK premiere at BFI London Film Festival in October, and subsequent screenings at Gothenburg Film Festival and CPH:DOX.
The film is written, directed and executive produced by Snowtown and Macbeth director Kurzel, making his first non-fiction title. Nick Batzias and Charlotte Wheaton produced the film for Good Thing Productions; with finance from Screen Australia, VicScreen, MIFF Premiere Fund and McCorkell Brown Projects; and music from Ellis himself.
It joins a Conic slate that includes India Donaldson’s Good One; with Louise Courvoisier’s Holy Cow still in cinemas.
