Four film agencies across east and southeast Asia have united to support the first Malaysian Development Lab for Fiction Feature Films (mylab), with eight projects set to be showcased in Busan.
The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) has partnered with the Singapore Film Commission (SFC), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) on the inaugural mylab.

The incubator programme is aimed at scriptwriters, directors and producers looking to work on developing scripts and film projects under the guidance of creative and industry experts.
Projects must be at an early stage of development, with a team of scriptwriter, director and/or producer attached, aimed at regional or international audiences. The ambition is for each project to deliver a package of script, budget, financing plan, dossier and pitch-ready materials at the end of the programme.
The partnership with SFC and FDCP enables a film project in development from each country to participate in the third session of mylab, which will take place in-person during South Korea’s Busan International Film Festival and Asian Contents and Film Market (ACFM).
The eight projects are in the running for prizes including the FINAS mylab Award of $5,000 towards further development of the project and will be selected by jury comprising Christian Jeune, director of the film departmart for the Cannes Film Festival; Sydney Film Festival director Nashen Moodley; and Oh Jung-wan, producer and founder of South Korea’s Bom Film Productions.
There is also a TAICCA Development Award worth $5,000 towards project development and an invitation to pitch at Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF) in 2023.
The lab previously hosted two online sessions, in June and August, and the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) will also support mylab with a reception in Busan, connecting participants with the Korean film industry.
