Merman is partnering with former Pulse Films executive Lucas Ochoa on joint venture Siren, Screen’s sister site Broadcast can reveal.
The sub-label will focus on returning streamer series and films with a genre focus. It aims to be the home for writers and directors to nurture and pursue their most ambitious ideas in the genre space.
Ochoa served as chief creative officer of the scripted division at Pulse and latterly steering its film and scripted TV output. His credits include returning TV series Gangs of London (Sky/AMC), as well as feature films such as Andrea Arnold’s American Honey, Robert Eggers’ The Witch and Emmy-winning documentary Trophy.
Ochoa said: “I’m so excited to be joining the Merman family and working with them all at such an exciting time for the company”.
Merman recently landed its first Netflix commission with the Rachel Weisz-starring drama Vladimir and is currently working on a second series for BBC1 comedy Amandaland. It is also involved with recently announced adaptation of I’m Glad My Mom Died, with Sharon Horgan exec producing the Apple TV+ original.
