
Sony horror Insidious: Out Of The Further and Black Bear’s comedy Spa Weekend lead new releases in UK and Ireland cinemas this weekend as Coyote vs. Acme begins previews.
The sixth instalment in the Insidious franchise, Out Of The Further, launches in 527 locations. It opens wider than previous entry The Red Door which debuted in 485 locations back in 2023. That title grossed £2.3m in its first weekend, just shy of Insidious: Chapter Two which debuted with £2.9m, and remains the highest opener of the series.
Jacob Chase directs Out Of The Further which follows a young woman who can bring spirits into the mortal world but is soon haunted by malevolent forces. Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Maisie Richardson-Sellers star.
Spa Weekend opens in 487 sites for Black Bear. The US comedy follows three friends whose relaxing weekend away descends into chaos when their trainwreck of a friend turns up. Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Anna Faris and Michelle Buteau star.
It is written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, who wrote 2009’s The Hangover which opened on £3.2m and ended on £22.1m.
Altitude is previewing the long-delayed Coyote vs. Acme in 530 venues from today until its official release date next Friday (August 28).
Statham, horror and drag queens
Action thriller Mutiny launches in 373 cinemas via Studiocanal. Jason Statham stars in the film as a former Royal Marine commando who is framed for a crime and must find the people responsible on board a container ship. Statham’s last film Shelter opened earlier this year on £964,000, ahead of his 2025 film A Working Man (£657,763 opening) and 2024’s The Beekeeper (£956,979).
In re-releases, Park Circus has Danny Boyle’s 1996 classic Trainspotting in 294 locations and 2018 animation Early Man in 198 locations.

Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma is out in 176 sites for Mubi. The meta-horror has grossed £102,664 in previews already, with £30,881 coming from 35mm screenings. Mubi also reported strong regional interest with 10 sold-out preview screenings across Cardiff, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Birmingham and Dublin.
Teenage Sex And Death opened Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard earlier this year and went on to win the festival’s Queer Palm. It follows a director who is rebooting a slasher franchise and becomes obsessed with casting the final girl from the original. Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder both star.
Universal opens slapstick comedy Stop! That! Train! in 153 locations. Adam Shankman’s film follows two train stewardesses who must try and stop disaster from hitting LA. An ensemble cast of drag queens star including RuPaul, Ginger Minj and Brooke Lynn Hytes.
Anime Ltd is re-releasing the 1989 Japanese title Kiki’s Delivery Service exclusively in 50 Imax venues.
Pablo Trapero’s Toronto 2025 premiere & Sons opens via Icon Film Distribution. Bill Nighy stars as a reclusive novelist who requests the presence of his estranged sons when he is convinced of his imminent death. George MacKay, Noah Jupe, Imelda Staunton and Dominic West also star.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey and The End Of Oak Street are the key holdover titles.
