‘Extra Geography’

EXCLUSIVE: Vertigo Releasing has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights to Molly Manners’ Extra Geography.

The UK feature had its world premiere in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at Sundance Film Festival in January.

Extra Geography is set in an English girls’ boarding school, where best friends and high achievers Flic and Minna embark on their boldest project yet: to fall in love with the next person they see.

It is produced by Sarah Brocklehurst of Brock Media, and adapted from Rose Tremain’s short story by Succession writer Miriam Battye. Newcomers Marni Duggan and Galaxie Clear lead the cast, alongside Alice Englert.

The film is funded by Film4, the BFI, and Screen Yorkshire; HanWay Films represents world sales.

“We’re delighted to be working with Molly Manners to bring her fantastic debut feature Extra Geography to UK audiences,” said Ed Caffrey, head of acquisitions & business development at Vertigo Releasing. “It’s a witty, sharply observed depiction of teenage friendship, with a vivid sense of school life. We were particularly struck by the film’s two young leads, Marni Duggan and Galaxie Clear, whose electric performances mark them out as rising stars.”

Extra Geography has found its perfect distribution team in the home territory. Vertigo will have lots of fun with this release,” said Nicole Mackey, head of sales at HanWay Films.
