Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to Joel Coen’s Jack Of Spades starring Patsy Ferran, Josh O’Connor, Damian Lewis, and Lesley Manville and is planning an autumn 2027 theatrical release.

Coen, who directed The Tragedy Of Macbeth and has famously co-directed many films with his brother Ethan such as No Country For Old Men, Fargo and True Grit, directs from a screenplay by Eleanor Catton, Joel and Ethan Coen, and Conor McPherson.

The feature is described as a “sinister gothic mystery filled with intrigue and betrayal” that takes place in the “atmospheric Scottish Highlands”.

Robert Graf, Frances McDormand, and Joel Coen serve as producers alongside Steven Rales for Indian Paintbrush, and Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin for Blueprint Pictures. Donald MacKinnon is the executive producer.

Coen shared the best picture Oscar with Ethan Coen and Scott Rudin for No Country for Old Men in 2008, when the brothers also won for directing and adapted screenplay. This marks the second time Netflix and Coen have collaborated after The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs.

Ferran is an Olivier Award-winning actress known for stage roles in Summer And Smoke, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf. Her film credits include Living and Darkest Hour. O’Connor has starred in Challengers and Wake Up Dead Man. Lewis’s credits include Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and the television series Homeland, while Manville earned an Oscar nomination for Phantom Thread.
