Netflix has ordered a six-episode limited series adaptation of Sarah Pinborough novel Behind Her Eyes from Left Bank Pictures, UK-based producer of the streamer’s The Crown.

Set to shoot in the UK later this year, the series will be written by Steve Lightfoot, creator of Netflix’s Marvel-based series The Punisher, and Angela LaManna.

Lightfoot will also serve as executive producer, though it is understood that he will not work day-to-day on the show in the UK and will remain available if The Punisher, the second season of which just dropped on Netflix, is ordered for a third season.

Eliza Mellor will produce and Suzanne Mackie and Andy Harries, heads of Sony Pictures Television-owned Left Bank, will serve as non-writing executive producers, along with the company’s head of development Jessica Burdett.

Thriller Behind Her Eyes was published in early 2017 and has reportedly been sold to 20 territories worldwide. Its central character is Louise, a newly single mother who supports herself and her son working in a psychiatrist’s office. An affair with her new boss, and an unlikely friendship with his wife, catches Louise in a dangerous web of secrets.

British writer Pinborough has more than 20 YA, thriller and genre novels to her name and has written TV tie-in novels in the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood series. She has also written for British TV series New Tricks. Film rights to her YA novel 13 Minutes were optioned by Netflix two years ago.
