EXCLUSIVE: Sahamongkolfilm International has launched upcoming fantasy feature Pha Jaan: Deathbound at Talad Nang, the film market held alongside Bangkok International Film Festival (BKKIFF).
The Thai company introduced the romantic supernatural family film to international buyers ahead of a local release on November 26. The feature is produced by Chookiat Sakveerakul, known as the director of 13 Beloved and Love Of Siam.
The story is set in a remote village in northern Thailand where the locals believe that when a spouse dies, the partner must also die. It centres on a young pregnant woman, a newcomer to the village, who must sever this ancient sacred bond to save the man she loves and their unborn child.
The cast includes rising stars Todsapol Maisuk and Janistar Phomphadungcheep. Directors Sorawit Muangkaew and Asada Likhiboonma previously worked together on a segment of horror anthology Haunted Universities 3.
The film is produced by Sahamongkolfilm International, which also handles sales. It is a key title that the Bangkok-based company introduced to international buyers at Talad Nang.
This year, the market adopted a different model through a business matching system that offered international buyers the rare opportunity to have their own meeting set up for Thai sales and production companies to come and meet them.
“This is the first time I walked into a buyer’s booth, instead of sitting still to wait for them to come,” said Pitaya Sithi-Amnuai, Sahamongkolfilm International’s director of international sales. “This new format works well. I had many good meetings and developed new contacts.”
He had almost 20 meetings with international buyers over two days (September 22-23) at the market.
Pitaya is a veteran sales executive whose first market was selling 2008’s Ong Bak 2 in Cannes. The Ong Bak trilogy and Tom Yum Goong films – martial-arts action films starring Muay Thai fighter Tony Jaa and produced by Sahamongkolfilm International – proved global breakout hits.
More recently, ghostly comedy drama The Undertaker and The Undertaker 2 earned a combined $32.6m (THB1,086m) at the Thai box office. The latter is the biggest Thai film of 2026 to date on $10m (thb326m). Sahamongkolfilm International handles sales of both titles.
