EXCLUSIVE: Strand Releasing has acquired all North American rights to the UK queer sci-fi Chatlines, Lloyd Eyre-Morgan and Neil Ely’s follow-up to their 2025 comedy Departures.
Ely, Paul Mortlock and Eyre-Morgan – collectively known as Punk Spirit Films – produced the story starring Eyre-Morgan and Nico Mirallegro as two terminally-ill men who meet on a Chatroulette-style app. One man thinks it is 2027 and the other is convinced it is 2025. Siobhan Finneran from Happy Valley also stars.
Strand Releasing plans a late spring 2027 theatrical release after Jon Gerrans negotiated the deal with Punk Spirit Films.
“We are thrilled to be working once again with Strand Releasing, following our wonderful experience working together on the release of Departures this year,” said Eyre-Morgan, Ely, and Mortlock.
“With the critical success of Departures, the film received The New York Times’ Critic’s Pick and a 95% Rotten Tomatoes as of today, we’re so confident of this team’s vision and excited to open it theatrically next year,” Gerrans said.
Punk Spirit Films are developing their third feature. Strand Releasing, led by Gerrans and Marcus Hu, currently has Brydie O’ Connor’s Barbara Forever, Gregg Araki’s 4K restoration of Mysterious Skin, and David Pablo’s Mexican Oscar submission On The Road in release.
