Nicolas Cage reprises the role of arms dealer Yuri Orlov in ‘Lords Of War’

Vertical has acquired US rights to Vendôme Pictures’ Lords Of War, which recently wrapped production in Morocco and reunites Nicolas Cage with his writer-director Andrew Niccol from the 2005 original.

Bill Skarsgård also stars in the thriller alongside Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks, and Greg Tarzan Davis. CinemaCon attendees will get to see first footage in Las Vegas next week.

Cage reprises his role as the arms dealer Yuri Orlov, who gets involved in a lethal battle for legacy when he discovers he has a son, Anton (Skarsgård), a mercenary mastermind bent on outdoing his father by building a private army and exploiting America’s wars in the Middle East.

Vertical plans a 2027 theatrical release after partner Peter Jarowey negotiated the deal with producer and financier Vendôme and CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers. FilmNation handles international sales.

Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi, who produced the original, serve as producers for Vendôme alongside Niccol, and Cage for Saturn Films. Executive producers are Skarsgård, Alice Dawson, Fifth Season’s Graham Taylor and Christopher Slager, and Vertical’s Rich Goldberg and Jarowey.
