Norwegian cinema left Normandy having won two top prizes at the Nordic Film Festival in Rouen, which wrapped on Sunday (March 29).

Norwegian director Eva Sørhaug's feature debut, Cold Lunch (Lønsj), which was launched last year in the Critics' Week at Venice and has since toured the international festival circuit, received the Jury Grand Prix.

The Audience Award went to Norwegian director Nils Gaup's The Kautokeino Rebellion (Kautokeino-Opprøret), which took the similar prize at the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck 2008, the other major Scandinavian annual showcase abroad.

A Swedish production, Danish director Simon Staho's Heaven's Heart (Himlens Hjärta) was awarded for Best Actress (Maria Lundqvist) and Best Actor (Mikael Persbrandt); it also bagged the Second Souffle Award.

Unspooling at Rouen's Gaumont and Melville theatres, and for the 22nd year organised by festival founders Isabelle Duault and Jean-Michel Mongredien, the 12-day showcase included more than 100 films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, adding titles from the Baltic Republics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and the Benelux. Ten features were competing in the main competition.

Among the festival guests was 90-year-old Danish-French director Gabriel Axel, whose Babette's Feast (Babettes Gæstebud) received the1988 Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Feature. He was accompanied by his journalist-director daughter, Karin Mørch, who last year published a book about him, Gabriel's Feast (Gabriels gæstebud), and made the documentary, Gabriel's World (Gabriels verden).
