Old Dog wins digital competition at Hong Kong fest

The film revolves around a man who tries to sell his valuable Tibetan mastiff as many other dogs in his village have been stolen..  

The Silver Digital Award went to Thai director Sivaroj Kongsakul for his debut feature Eternity, while the DoP of Old Dog, Sonthar Gyal, received a Special Mention for his directorial debut The Sun Beaten Path.

The Humanitarian Award for Best Documentary went to Peace, by Japanese director Soda Kazushiro, which examines the concept of co-existence by looking at communities of humans and cats.

The Humanitarian Award for Outstanding Documentary went to Pink Saris directed by Kim Longinotto, about the struggles of a group of Indian women from the untouchable caste.

The FIPRESCI jury gave their prize to Korea’s Yoon Sung-hyun for Bleak Night, while a Special Mention went to Japanese filmmaker Hirohara Satoru’s Good Morning To The World.

The Signis Award for films with artistic, human, social, and spiritual values went to Debra Granik’s Winter’s Bone, with a Special Mention for Israeli director Eran Riklis’ The Human Resources Manager.

In the Short Film Competition, the grand prize went to Pawel Romuald’s experimental documentary Pigs, while the jury prize went to Little Children, Big Words directed by Lisa James Larsson.

Both Annick Blanc’s Nowhere Elsewhere and Ann Marie Fleming’s I Was A Child Of Holocaust Survivors received Special Mentions.

The 35th edition of the HKIFF wraps on Tuesday night (April 5).
