Spanish producers MediaPro, Morena Films and Argentina's Esperanza Films have joined Madrid-based Pentagrama Films to produce a documentary about Cuba for director Oliver Stone.

Provisionally titled Looking For Fidel, the documentary is based on an original idea by Pentagrama producer Jose Ibanez exploring the history and future of the island. Production is already underway in Cuba, where Stone is scheduled to interview Fidel Castro this week.

"We've been moving this project for months," says Pentagrama's Ibanez, "and finally this week we were conceded the interview with Castro. It is an historic event."

The feature-length documentary, the final budget for which has yet to be determined, is planned for theatrical release next autumn. MediaPro currently holds world rights.

Madrid-based start-up Pentagrama recently co-produced Fernando Leon's documentary about the Mexican Zapatista movement, Caminantes, which screened at Sundance and won a Coral Award at the Havana Film Festival.

Production services and content broker MediaPro is part-owner of Madrid-based film producer Esicma and a frequent co-producer with Elias Querejeta PC, including on Fernando Leon's forthcoming feature film Mondays In The Sun (Los Lunes Al Sol) starring Javier Bardem.
